At Ryvarden, the forces of nature will affect both body and soul. The cape seems to reach out and lift you towards where the huge sky meets the mighty sea. Whether the storms rage and you lean into the wind, or the sea is calm, the scenery will give you a breathtaking feeling.

The gallery shop at Ryvarden sells various works of art, ceramics, jewellery, glass, books and cards. The café is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00-16:00 from July 9th to August 3rd. Open Sundays in January - July.

Lighthouses used to be the most important guides along the coast.
Ryvarden was built in 1849. After the lighthouse became automatic in 1984, the buildings have been used as a cultural centre. Here one can find a gallery, café and museum. During the period from Palm Sunday to the New Year the exhibition changes every month. 

The old lighthouse keepers house is for rent all year around and have room for up to 10 people. It’s a great experience living out there with the ocean so close. From the windows you have a panorama view with ocean and sky in every direction. If you are lucky, you can experience sea eagle and deer.

Hike:

The hike gives a great natureexperience in rough, stone characterized coast landscape. It is also first part north on the Nordsjø-trail that is marked with a blue N. The Nordsjø-trail begins south in Sveio and ends on the island Fedje, north of Bergen. The Nordsjø-trail is marked to create awareness around the south-west coast culture. The hike starts from Mølstrevåg on a gravel road, which leads to Ryvarden lighthousestation. Just before the lighthousestation and memorial from Sleipner accident, there’s marked a path north into the terrain. This path is easy to walk, and goes through open landscape with a nice view. Along the trip there’s marked another path to Sørevika, where there is ruins from an old fishinghouse with the name Steffensbua.
