When Norway was united as a kingdom for the first time, it was Harald Fairhair from Avaldsnes (10 min. from Haugesund) who established Norway’s first royal estate in this region. Norway was governed from this seat for a period of 500 years. The airport is situated on Karmøy, 10 minutes from the city of Haugesund.
